A: Yes, you need an unlocked mobile phone to use our Africa Travel SIMs. Locked phones will not work with SIM cards from other networks. In most cases, mobile phones now come unlocked by default from mobile networks. Please check with your Mobile network if your device is unlocked.
A: This SIM card is designed for phones and tablets. It comes in a triple-cut style SIM that allows you to pop out the right SIM size you need for any device!
A: Never. With King Sims, our physical Travel Sims and eSIMs are all Pre-Paid. Meaning you only pay once off for the plan you need and that's it! No more surprise bill shocks

Our Africa Travel SIMs and eSIMs are data only. They do not come with direct calls or texts. However, there is a work around to this. To directly call or text African mobile numbers, you must download the app called 'Skype' or something similar. This app will use the 4G data in your Africa Travel SIM to make the direct call within the African country your in.
For example, to call or text a mobile number in South Africa, dial +27 followed by the South African mobile number within the Skype app.

- Download the 'Skype' app, then, go to the keypad within the skype app and do the following:
- Calling a South African Mobile number: +27 16-333-7777
- Texting a South African Mobile number: +27 16-333-7777
Important: This guide is ONLY for customers who need to call a direct mobile number or landline number within South Africa. Alternatively, the easiest thing to do is to use apps like Whatsapp, Instagram, FB Messenger, Viber, Line, WeChat ect. All these apps allow you to make calls and texts to anyone in Africa using your mobile data. You'll be pleased to know that a significant amount of African countries rely on apps like Whatsapp, WeChat & Line to communicate with each other.

For example: Some resellers may "claim" they're African Travel SIMs or eSIMs are unlimited data but they actually are NOT unlimited 4G data. Most are daily 4G data allowances with the speeds restricted after using a certain amount of 4G data within that day. All our Africa Travel SIMs come loaded with all the 4G data you can use.
- ✈️ Connect While In The Plane: You should choose a physical King Sims Travel SIM for its ease of activation and immediate usability. You can swap the SIM card while on the plane, and it will be ready to use as soon as you land, without needing a Wi-Fi connection.

Answer: The main disadvantage of using a physical SIM is that it requires you to physically swap out your existing SIM card, which may be inconvenient for some users. Additionally, if your phone does not have a SIM card slot (such as some newer models that only support eSIM), you will need to use an eSIM instead.

The SoftBank connection gave me reliable 4G while hopping between Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari and Osaka’s food alleys, so Google Maps and local train apps worked flawlessly since I needed data. I used WhatsApp for quick check-ins and even completed a couple of online banking transactions without trouble, which made travel feel much safer.
